Biotech for the Circular Economy
At Activatec, we engineer innovative bioprocesses to transform low-value organic by-products into high-value ingredients. From proprietary platforms like our polyhydro acids bioprocess to our active role in colaborative R&D projects, we bridge science and industry to accelerate the transition to a circular, sustainable bioeconomy.

ABOUT US
Who We Are
Activatec is a biotechnology company developing and scaling innovative processes for the circular bioeconomy. We specialise in industrial and environmental biotechnology, using renewable and non-competing feedstocks to produce sustainable, bio-based alternatives for cosmetics, food, feed, and health sectors.

Our Mission
We aim to unlock the value of currently underused resources — such as whey permeate, spent sugars, and agri-food by-products — through biotechnological innovation. Our processes are designed to reduce waste, lower emissions, and deliver high-purity ingredients aligned with circularity and clean-label trends.

What We Do
-
Develop proprietary bioprocesses, including our lactobionic acid platform
-
Support collaborative R&D projects in bio-based materials, bioproducts, and waste valorisation
-
Deliver techno-economic assessments, CMO documentation, and process scale-up strategies
-
Contribute to industrial symbiosis by integrating waste streams into value chains
Our Ecosystem
We are experienced partners in both national and EU-funded projects, collaborating with technology adopters, research centres, and end-users across Europe. Activatec is a member of BioVale, the UK’s leading bioeconomy innovation cluster.
Track Record
With over £1 million in early-stage funding and a network of more than 30 partners, Activatec is a trusted biotech partner delivering tangible results at the intersection of research and industry.
